Mini Pantry – Maxi Impact
If you’ve driven by the church on Lapeer in the past few months, you’ve probably noticed a wonderful new addition to our ministry – a Little Free Pantry offering food and personal items to anyone in need. During the fall, Pastor and several members joined forces to bring this to fruition, and it is proving to be a beautiful way to serve our neighbors.
The concept is simple – donations from Grace members, or anyone who feels moved to give, will stock the pantry so that those in need may help themselves. The Social Ministry committee has general oversight of the Pantry, and our intent is to keep guidelines to a minimum. We are asking members of Grace to participate in this ministry in two ways: Donate in-kind items: Nonperishable food; personal hygiene items; paper goods; diapers, etc. Donated items may be placed in one of the blue bins currently marked for the Food Bank. Serve as a stocker/shopper: We need 7 individuals/families to be a part of a 2-week rotation. These folks will take turns checking the pantry every two days (1 day every two weeks for each stocker/shopper) and stocking it as needed, using donated items from the blue bins or personal contributions. #1 -Sunday; #2 – Tuesday; #3 – Thursday; #4 – Saturday; #5 – Monday; #6 – Wednesday; #7 – Friday; repeat There is a lot of excitement about what this ministry has already done to support our neighbors in need. It is a logical extension of our commitment to address food insecurity in our community, complementing our partnership with the Greater Lansing Food Bank and the Northwest Lansing food pantry we support together with Good Shepherd and St Stephen. The Little Free Pantry will not replace that ministry, and the congregation is encouraged to continue donating financially to support the Food Bank and contribute in-kind donations for the Little Free Pantry.
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40
Lift Every Voice and Sing – ELW 841
Lift every voice and sing
till earth and heaven ring,
ring with the harmonies of liberty;
let our rejoicing rise
high as the list’ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
bitter the chast’ning rod,
felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
yet with a steady beat,
have not our weary feet
come to the place for which our parents sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
we have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
out from the gloomy past,
till now we stand at last
where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
thou who hast by thy might
led us into the light,
keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee,
lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee;
shadowed beneath thy hand,
may we forever stand.
true to our God,
true to our native land.
Vision Statement
Our vision is to be faithful servants, living by God's Word and supporting others to do so while extending to all the teachings of Jesus Christ by reaching out to neighbors and strangers, seeking justice while constantly striving for and supporting diversity in our congregation.
